There are several transportation options available. The first step is to travel to either Kawthaung, Myanmar, or Ranong, Thailand.

GETTING TO KAWTHAUNG TO BOARD THE BOAT TO BOULDER ISLAND

  • By Air from Yangon to Kawthaung

This option is not recommended at the moment as flights seem to be limited and time consuming.

There are one or two flights a day from Yangon to Kawthaung, operated by Myanmar National Airlines (MNA) and Air Kanbawza (KBZ). The schedules often change from month to month, depending on the season, so please check with your travel agent for the latest schedule. If you fly from Yangon to Kawthaung, we will meet you at Kawthaung Airport and transfer you to the Kawthaung jetty (travel time around 30 minutes), where the Boulder Island Transfer Boat will be waiting to start your adventure to Boulder Bay Eco-Resort.

  • By Air from Bangkok to Ranong

Two airlines offer up to four flights a day from Bangkok to Ranong, the Thailand town across a wide river estuary from Kawthaung, making it an inexpensive and reliable way of getting to Kawthaung. Both Nok and AirAsia airlines fly out of Bangkok’s no-frills Don Mueang International Airport domestic Terminal 2, with flights from early morning through to early evening taking 1.5 hours and costing US$25-98. From Ranong airport it is 30 minutes to the pier (taxi approx. 500 baht or shared songthaew 30-50 baht), and after checking out at Thailand immigration, you can hire a long tail boat (400-500 baht), or share with others, for the 30 minute to Myanmar, with a couple of customs checkpoints along the way, where you might have to show your passport and e-visa letter. On arrival our staff will meet you and take you to the nearby Immigration Pier (Myo Ma Jetty) to a small building is the border control where you present your passport and visa/e-visa letter.

  • By Bus from Bangkok to Ranong

Ranong can easily be reached by bus from Bangkok, Surat Thani, Chumphon, and centres further south such as Phuket and Khao Lak.

From Bangkok, both government and private VIP buses leave from the Sai Tai Mai (Southern Bus Terminal), with a journey time of about 9 hours. The bus ticket costs depend on the company and type of bus, and they normally depart between 19:00 and 20:00. Daytime buses leave around 09:00 but arrive in Ranong too late to cross into Myanmar on the same day. You can stay overnight in Ranong at a good local hotel in the city. Ask the local drivers (taxi, tuk-tuk) to bring you there.

While the cheaper but less comfortable second-class air-con buses are not recommended, the VIP buses are the most comfortable and offer the most legroom. Please check the exact schedule to get the correct times.

Buses leave Phuket bus station every two to three hours for Ranong. Please check the schedule to get the correct times. Taxis and minivans are also available. It is also possible to travel by bus from Surat Thani, near the Gulf of Thailand, to Ranong, with the journey taking approximately 4 hours. Alternative options include taxis and minivans.

If traveling without our free transfers: After checking out at Thailand immigration, you can hire a longtail boat or share with others for the 20-minute journey to Kawthaung, Myanmar, with a couple of customs checkpoints along the way where you might need to show your passport and e-visa letter. On arrival, our staff will meet you and take you to the nearby Immigration Pier (Myo Ma Jetty), where you will present your passport and visa/e-visa letter at a small border control building.
